Alternative-pop up and comer Angela Merlino shares her stunning new single ‘You Cannot Touch Me’ taken from her new EP ‘Back To Basics’. Based in London, Angela takes a unique approach to making music, blending her passion for spirituality and healing (healing instruments and music therapy techniques) with a range of styles of her Spanish, Italian and Indian heritage. The result is a strikingly original, tribal pop infused sound encompassing Spanish/flamenco sounds, sound healing and affecting, emotive and honest lyricism. Multifaceted, rich with ideas and yet still commercially viable.
A talented songwriter, vocalist, producer and multi-instrumentalist, ‘You Cannot Touch Me’ was created entirely by Angela herself. Written using Spanish/Arabic scales and featuring a wide variety of instrumentation played by Angela herself, the resulting track is a hypnotic, dark-pop soundscape filled with inventive ideas and showcasing Merlino’s silky and haunting lead vocal.
Lyrically exploring freedom and empowerment, the track touches on themes of sacred feminine energy, duality and spirituality. Angela explains: “It’s about overcoming the obstacles in life. Fighting the darkness with light.
Creating an affirmation in music form to remind myself and others that we are strong as long as we stand in the light. Is a form of music meditation, a mantra itself.”
